Funny Car Driver visits Denis Morris
| Guest speaker, veteran Alcohol Funny Car driver Larry Dobbs and crew chief Kevin Dobbs, visited Mr.Kittel’s grade 12 Denis Morris Transportation Technology students. Larry is a local drag racer from Welland, he shocked the drag racing world with the first ever 250+ MPH run made by a Roots Supercharged Funny Car and his best elapsed time to date is 5.70 seconds which both occur within a ¼ mile racetrack. The horsepower developed from the alcohol burning engine is over 3000 hp. Larry and Kevin spoke to the DM students about safety, various technologies on the car, and the world of drag racing in general. | They brought in numerous engine and clutch components and spoke in depth of the technical aspects of the race car. The students were intrigued by the amount of knowledge and experience that both men shared with them during the 90 minute presentation. Transportation Technology covers a wide variety of areas of topic within the auto sector therefore bringing in a guest speaker such as Mr. Dobbs who could add to their knowledge and expand upon the curriculum that the students have been exposed to throughout the semester was a welcoming addition to the classroom. |
